A great mix starts with a great recording but the most often overlooked step is the proper editing of the recorded tracks.

Timing issues, noise, clicks, buzz etc are all small details that add up and mess up your mix.

Having a song that is not mixed but edited will always sound better having a song mixed but not edited.

Don't skimp on this.

Have your tracks edited so they're in time, free of any noise.

Please note that best results come from dry tracks. Tracks with Reverb and Delay baked in will cause artifacts and are very difficult to get them to sound right. For best results please provide:

DI tracks for all electric guitar / bass tracks.

All mics for drumset recordings

The tracks all start at the same point (so they can be placed below another all together and the song will play from start to end with each section playing in the correct place)
